At their Board meeting on December 5, the MA Board of Library Commissioners voted unanimously to grant the Jones Library an extension until March 31, 2025, in order to complete the necessary historic preservation reviews.
Commissioner Comeau, who made the motion, named the outpouring of public support as part of their decision-making. He specifically noted the letters from Congressman McGovern, Senator Comerford, and Representative Domb as critical to their decision, as well.
Project opponents also contacted the MBLC and spoke during public comment at the meeting's end. Commissioner Comeau referred to a fraud complaint filed recently with the MA Inspector General's office, which he noted contained elements that are untrue. (For more about this fraud complaint, please see Ginny Hamilton's column on the Amherst Current. )
Over 100 individuals emailed the MBLC Commissioners along with elected officials expressing support for granting the extension.
